Deepfake Deception: The Mr Beast and BBC Scam
The world’s biggest YouTuber, MrBeast, and two BBC presenters have been used in deepfake videos to scam unsuspecting people online. Deepfakes use artificial intelligence (AI) to manipulate a person’s face or body in videos. A video on TikTok claimed to be MrBeast offering iPhones for 2, while BBC stars Matthew Amroliwala and Sally Bundock were used in a scam video promoting an investment opportunity with Elon Musk. The BBC approached Facebook-owner Meta for a comment, and the content has since been removed. TikTok also removed the MrBeast ad and the account that posted it for violating its policies.
